You launch the automatic batch translation and the plugin goes through all the site's strings language by language. It goes in batches to avoid saturating the API or your server, and if something is interrupted, it resumes where it left off.

Google needs a different address per language to index each version. WP-Translate creates the language prefix, writes the hreflang and canonical tags in the head, and generates a sitemap per language.

What has already been translated once is not paid for again
Each translated string is saved in your database. If the same phrase appears on twenty product pages, the API is called once. It's the difference between a bill of cents and one of tens of euros.
